As expected, the “cold season” is finally here. Arriving this week was the expected cold front and with it plenty of overcast, rainy and cooler days with lower average temperatures throughout the week. To be frank, the combination of such climate factors is the perpetual bane of the pineapple industry – a challenge that we as farmers master to mitigate as much as naturally possible.
To ease Mother Nature’s rule, we reduced harvest age to bring our sugar content and maturity under control. While not completely controllable, our fundamental husbandry practices allow for us to minimize the impact of climate on our plants – producing a fruit with average flavors and aroma.
In other news, the strike at the ports came to an end as the parties successfully negotiated an out!
