The climatic conditions of Week 13 at the source were those that we have been waiting for following this transitional period. Absolutely zero precipitation was reported and variability of low and high temperatures was normal for such climatic conditions. The week proved to be the normal, tropical environment we are used to – with pineapples responding very well and quickly to such changes.
However, with the short work week in Week 14 (as Holy Week is celebrated by our workers) we did experience quite a few unusual results in quality recordings. Although 100% of the fruit was harvested at 22 WAF, quality characteristic such as flavor, firmness and translucency, should have been very similar to last week. Instead, because this week’s harvest was completed during the first three days of the week, it seems that the fruit required more time in the field to reach full maturity.
We’re sure next week’s report will result in better quality reports as such variables and changes to agricultural practices will return to normal.
