World Wildlife Day – Costa Rica’s Beautiful Biodiversity
Costa Rica is home to a total of 5% of the world’s biodiversity
Within the small country of Costa Rice over a quarter of the land is dedicated to conservation to protect the wide array of wildlife that calls this country home. 275 hectares of natural rainforest surrounds our farm, creating a habitat for some of the amazing wildlife. This is why we focus so heavily on sustainability – to protect our delicate country and the animals that call it home. In honor of World Wildlife Day on March 3rd here are some fun facts about a few of our favorite Costa Rican Natives!

Why Sustainability and Environmentalism Is So Important in Costa Rica
At Chestnut Hill Farms, we take pride in the process. We take time to prepare the earth for planting, to harvest by hand, and to make sure our people and our environment are protected – all while producing the perfect pineapple. That includes caring for over 275 hectares of natural rainforest that surrounds our farm, offsetting our carbon footprint and giving a home to just some of the amazing wildlife that lives here in Costa Rica. Despite representing only .3% of the world’s total surface area, our beautiful country is home to 5% of its biodiversity. Meet Farm Wildlife: The Three-Toed Sloth

Chestnut Hill Farms is located in Costa Rica, just over the hill from Tortuguero National Park, or the “Costa Rican Amazon”. With abundant rainfall each year, our farms are able to thrive in this lush environment that supports a variety of wildlife. Chestnut Hill Farms maintains over 275 hectares of forest reserve, which serves as a home to three species of monkeys, the three-toed sloth, many classes of birds including toucans and parrots, deer, wild turkey and jaguars.
