The Perfect Pineapple Production Report Week 27

  • Climatic conditions more reminiscent of the rainy season
  • Evening downpours and sunny days
  • 126.4 mm (5 inches) or rainfall recorded
  • These conditions create very rapid plant growth
  • We are balancing harvest age and internal conditions
  • As of this writing, a trucker strike has paralyzed transport to and from the Atlantic side port of Limon. Truckers are protesting that drivers from other countries delivering cargo to Costa Rican ports extend their stay illegally and take away business from local drivers. Students are supporting the movement in an effort to oust the Minister of Education. Negotiations at the Presidential level are taking place in order to restore order.

The Perfect Pineapple Production Report Week 26

  • Indian Summer continues into mid-June
  • Mostly sunny days with a few showers accumulating just 31.1 mm (1.25 inches) of precipitation
  • Ideal conditions continue for the production of quality pineapples
  • Harvest age continues to be adjusted downwards
  • 44% harvested at 21 WAF
  • 56% harvested at 22 WAF
  • Rainy and warm conditions are anticipated for the balance of June
  • NDF harvest has been concluded, volumes industry wide expected to drop
  • Markets are already reacting to more limited supplies

  • “Indian summer” climatic conditions over the Atlantic region
  • Mostly sunny skies with a few afternoon showers accumulated
  • 36.6 mm (1.5 inches) of precipitation

  • A mixed bag of downpours and drizzles
  • Total precipitation was 74.1 mm (<3.0”)
  • June is predicted to have less precipitation
  • Vast majority of fruit harvested at 22 WAF
  • Harvest age reduction anticipated in coming weeks
  •  NDF harvest peak is complete and volumes return to normal

· A rather dramatic change in climatic conditions:

· Heavy showers accumulated 165,2 mm (6 ½”) of precipitation

· Average temperatures declined

· Mostly overcast days during the week

· Field sampling prior to harvest is intensified

· Harvest age continues to be adjusted

· Focus on these efforts is paying off as quality continues to be outstanding

· Last week of NDF harvest underway and volumes will return to normal level

Climatic conditions changed for the better
Stable temperatures
Only  5mm (0.2 inches) of precipitation recorded
NDF harvest in full swing and the weather has helped
Quality is outstanding
All farms have installed biodegradable plastic mulch to thwart the effects of NDF causing stress in 2020 and beyond.

  • Climatic conditions very much in line with the season
  • Well distributed showers brought 113.2 mm (4 ½ inches) of rainfall
  • Followed by a dry weekend with plenty of sunshine
  • Slight reduction in harvest age
  • NDF harvest is underway and should last no more than 3 weeks
  • Using color ribbons to identify NDF events pays off with stable quality

Same old, same old!

  • Just a few showers early on in the week
  • 18.3 mm (0.75 inches) or rainfall recorded
  • Average air and soil temperatures with minor downward movement
  • Quality is exceptional, external color recuperating
  • Sugar content, as well as flesh firmness,  fruit taste and aroma are outstanding
  • NDF harvest is underway so we expect successful promotions for the next 3 weeks

The Perfect Pineapple Production Report Week 18

· Climatic conditions continue to be stable and favorable

· A single rainy day brought 24 mm (1 inch) of precipitation

· Minimum temperature at 22.6°C ( 72.8°F) and the average was 26.8°C ( 80.2°F)

· NDF harvest set for weeks 18,19 and 20 (arrivals in the market weeks 20,22 and 22)

· APM, the new terminal in Limon is having the usual growing pains (truck congestion and delays)

· All husbandry practices on schedule and fruit quality is outstanding
